GCC condemns targeting of humanitarian convey in Sudan

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) condemned in the strongest terms the targeting of a humanitarian convoy near Mellit in North Darfur, Sudan.

In a statement issued today, the Council’s Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi stressed the need to spare civilians and humanitarian personnel the ravages of conflict and to strictly adhere to international and humanitarian laws that prohibit the targeting of aid and relief supplies.

He also called for respecting the sanctity of humanitarian and relief work and ensuring that aid reaches those in need without obstacles or risks.

Al Budawi stressed that targeting humanitarian convoys constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms and undermines efforts to achieve security and stability in Darfur and throughout Sudan.
