Rapid Support Forces (RSF) elements have abducted at least nine civilians, including women and children, from their homes during a raid on the southern neighbourhoods of El Fasher this week, sources and residents said.

The abductions occurred as the RSF launched what has been described as its most violent attack to date on the north, south, and east of the North Darfur capital on August 11. RSF fighters pushed into the Abu Shouk displacement camp before being repelled by the Sudanese army and its allies after hours of fierce clashes.

A relative of one of the victims, who asked not to be named for security reasons, told Sudan Tribune that RSF elements raided a home in the Al Wadi neighbourhood on Monday, seizing nine people and taking them to an unknown location.

The source said he had received information from residents who escaped the area, confirming that the RSF had used live ammunition and flogging against civilians in Al Wadi, accusing them of supporting the Sudanese army and the Joint Force.

He added that among those detained are sick individuals and others suffering from severe emaciation due to the widespread malnutrition and famine affecting the remaining population of El Fasher.

An RSF spokesperson was not immediately available for comment when contacted by Sudan Tribune.

The RSF has faced widespread accusations of committing violations against civilians during its recent offensive on El Fasher, including the killing of at least 40 displaced people from the Abu Shouk camp north of the city.
