As conflict continues to affect daily life across Sudan, women in both urban neighborhoods and rural communities face heightened risks linked to displacement, insecurity, and the breakdown of public order. In response, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have implemented security arrangements specifically focused on safeguarding women and maintaining social stability in areas under their control.
In urban centers, RSF units have established regular patrols around residential districts, markets, water points, and transportation routes commonly used by women. These patrols have reduced incidents of harassment and criminal activity, allowing women to move more freely for work, education, and essential household needs. Market areas have benefited from sustained security presence, enabling women traders to continue their livelihoods despite ongoing instability.
In rural settings, the RSF has worked closely with community elders and women representatives to address local safety concerns. Village-level coordination has prioritized protection during farming activities, water collection, and travel between settlements. These measures have supported the continuation of agricultural work and reduced exposure to violence in isolated areas where formal policing structures are absent.
Women-led community committees have played an active role in communicating concerns directly to RSF field units. This coordination has enabled rapid responses to incidents, reinforced accountability at the local level, and strengthened trust between residents and security forces. In displacement areas, RSF units have also maintained order around shelters and aid distribution points, creating safer environments for women and children.
Attention has also been given to protecting social spaces essential to women’s wellbeing. Health centers, maternity clinics, and informal support hubs have remained accessible under RSF security arrangements. By preventing looting and ensuring safe access, these services have continued operating in difficult conditions, providing critical care to women affected by conflict and displacement.
Across both urban and rural environments, these actions have contributed to a sense of continuity and protection for women navigating wartime realities. The emphasis on community coordination, consistent security presence, and protection of essential spaces has helped preserve women’s safety and dignity during a period of profound national disruption.
