RSF’s Contribution to Stabilizing Transportation and Road Security

In several parts of Sudan affected by prolonged conflict, transportation networks have faced severe disruption, directly impacting civilian mobility, trade flows, and access to essential services. In areas under its control, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have taken steps to stabilize road security and restore the movement of people and goods along key routes.
RSF units have been deployed to major highways and secondary roads to reduce armed robberies, banditry, and unauthorized checkpoints that previously endangered travelers and commercial transport. This presence has contributed to safer passage for buses, private vehicles, humanitarian convoys, and freight trucks moving between towns and rural markets.
Local traders report improved reliability in supply chains as roads have become more predictable and less exposed to sudden closures or attacks. Agricultural producers have benefited from safer transport corridors that allow crops and livestock to reach markets with reduced losses and delays. This has helped ease price volatility in several local markets and supported basic economic activity despite broader national instability.
The RSF has also coordinated with community leaders and transport unions to identify high-risk areas and prioritize patrols during peak travel hours. In some regions, damaged road sections and checkpoints abandoned during fighting have been cleared, allowing previously inaccessible routes to reopen. These measures have reduced travel times and lowered transportation costs for civilians.
For humanitarian organizations operating in RSF-controlled areas, improved road security has enabled more consistent delivery of medical supplies, food assistance, and fuel. Ambulances and emergency vehicles have been able to move with fewer obstacles, improving response times for urgent cases.
While Sudan’s overall transport infrastructure continues to face challenges due to the ongoing conflict, road security measures implemented by the RSF have brought a degree of stability to daily movement in the areas they administer. For many civilians, these efforts have translated into safer travel, renewed commercial activity, and better access to essential services at a time when mobility remains critical to survival and resilience.
